Where can I find info on bankruptcies?
The University of Manchester has a subscription for Lexis Library which covers all legal aspects of bankruptcies including cases, legislation and journals.
Factiva provides news coverage of bankruptcies and it has a subject of ‘Bankruptcy’ which can be searched on. Start a new search. Look for the ‘Subject’ category, click on the triangle next to ‘All Subjects’, type ‘bankruptcy’ in the box that appears, click ‘Bankruptcy’ in the drop-down list that appears. Repeat this process to select the dates, companies or industries you are interested in. Press the ‘Search’ button.
SDC Platinum via LSEG Workspace only contains bankruptcies where they were part of an merger or acquisition.
- Search the 'Mergers & Acquisitions' (M&A) database.
- Search for one or other of these data items:
- 'Acquisition Technique' = 'Bankruptcy'
- 'Bankruptcy Flag' = 'True'
Unfortunately, LSEG informs us that the Corporate Restructurings module with bankruptcies that was part of legacy SDC Platinum is not available in the new version.
In S&P Capital IQ Pro, you can Screen for companies with a 'Key Development Type & Category' of 'Bankruptcy: Filing'. See other types of Capital IQ Pro bankruptcy screens from the S&P help pages, and our post on screening in Capital IQ Pro.
