Open Access funds: The Wellcome Trust
Answer
The Office for Open Research manages Open Access (OA) funds from The Wellcome Trust, in the form of an Open Access block grant. This grant is intended to support Wellcome-funded authors with the payment of Article Processing Charges (APCs), often required to publish papers Gold Open Access.
The Wellcome Trust Open Access block grant can be used to cover APCs for publications which meet the following criteria:
-
Original, primary research publications - see more about article types
-
Supported in whole, or in part, by Wellcome funding
-
Accepted for publication in a fully Open Access journal listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
You will need to ensure you comply with Wellcome’s OA policy to be eligible for funding:
-
You must publish your paper under a CC BY license
-
You must acknowledge your Wellcome research funding in the funding acknowledgement section of your paper, using your grant reference number
-
An electronic copy of the final paper must be made freely available in Europe PubMed Central as soon as possible and no later than six months after publication.
