How and when do I apply for Open Access funding?
Answer
Before applying for Open Access (OA) funding, please check your eligibility by going to the Open Access funds available for University of Manchester researchers article.
Funded papers accepted for publication
If your research acknowledges funding from UKRI, Wellcome, CRUK or BHF, and your paper has been accepted for publication, you can request funding via the Open Access Gateway. Please submit your Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) and complete the short request form.
Funded research should include a full grant acknowledgement, including grant number/s, within the AAM where applicable.
Unfunded papers, or papers not yet accepted for publication
If you plan to publish in a fully Open Access journal, please contact us prior to submission, using our Open Access enquiry form.
Authors should not submit papers to a fully Open Access journal, or request an invoice for Open Access fees from their publisher, before the Office for Open Research has approved your funding request.
If your work does not acknowledge funding, and you’re planning to publish in a hybrid journal you may be able to make use of one of our publisher Open Access agreements, or publish Green Open Access at no cost.
Publisher Open Access agreements
You do not need to request Open Access funding if you are publishing your paper via one of our publisher Open Access agreements.
