What is Gold Open Access?
Answer
Gold Open Access (OA) is a means of sharing research outputs, in which:
-
The published work is freely available via the publisher’s website immediately on publication
-
The published work is normally published under a Creative Commons license
-
The publisher may apply an Article Processing Charge (APC) to enable Gold OA
How can I make my research outputs Gold Open Access?
The Library manages a number of funds to enable Gold OA publication for eligible University of Manchester authors. You can access detailed information on these funds and check your eligibility via our Open Access funds available for University of Manchester researchers article.
The Library has established Open Access publishing agreements with more than 25 publishers. These provide Open Access for papers with a University of Manchester corresponding author, without requiring payment of an APC.
You can find out more about these agreements, and how to access them, in our Open Access agreements article.
Both Gold and Green OA are valid routes to compliance with the REF and University Open Access requirements.
