Introduction and overview
LSEG Refinitiv Workspace for Students is a specialist company database with excellent global coverage. It replaces Refinitiv Eikon. Workspace is available as a website, a desktop application and an Excel add-in, with some data only available using a particular access method. The Datastream and SDC Platinum databases are available within Workspace. You need to register for a Refinitiv ID to access Workspace and you may need to re-register every time. The desktop and Excel versions are available in the Eddie Davies Finance Zone and can be installed to specific staff PCs.
How do I register for a Refinitiv ID?
You will need to register at My Refinitiv. Your request should be approved automatically. Your access will then last until the end of the calendar month (TBC), after which you may need to register again.
- Follow our guide to registering for a Refinitiv ID
Where can I find a PC with Workspace Desktop and Excel?
On campus
- Go to the Eddie Davies Finance Zone in AMBS, room 2.011b Database Suite. All 16 PCs there have Workspace.
- Also, the room next door 2.011a Bloomberg Suite. All PCs in that room will have Workspace but the priority there is for people using Bloomberg.
- You can use the Finance Zone whenever the AMBS building is open, unless there is a workshop running. Check signs by the doors for details.
Remote access
- Follow our guide to accessing the Finance Zone remotely. (Remote access currently unavailable.)
When you have logged into Windows, go to the Start menu, scroll to the folder 'Refinitiv' and click 'Refinitiv Workspace'. Sign in with your Refinitiv ID.
How do I start the Workspace Excel add-in?
The Refinitiv Excel ribbon menu tab can be loaded from the Windows Start menu.
- Close Excel.
- In the Start menu, in the 'Refinitiv' folder, search for 'Refinitiv Workspace - Excel' and click.
- Wait for the 'Refinitiv' Excel add-in to load. Click the 'Refinitiv' menu then click 'Sign in'.
Note, the menu might say 'Workspace' instead. - Enter your Refinitiv ID and password and click the 'Sign in' button.
- The full Refinitiv menu takes a few seconds to fully load.
When the Refinitiv menu has fully loaded, it should look like this:
(The Datastream section may be collapsed into one button. If so, click it to expand.)
If the Refinitiv Excel menu is not showing, follow these steps to add it back.
- Close Excel.
- Go to the Windows Start Menu, scroll to the folder 'Refinitiv' and click 'Refinitiv Workspace - Excel'.
- Wait for Excel to reload with the Refinitiv Excel menu.
If this does not work, please contact the Library. Explain which PC you are using and in which room, for example, AMBS 2.011b PC B004.
What has changed between Eikon and Workspace Excel formulas?
If you already have Excel formulas created in Refinitiv Eikon, you will need to change these for Workspace.
Whenever you see =@TR
...replace it with =@RDP.Data
The @
is optional. For example, =TR("AAPL.O", "TR.CompanyName")
becomes =RDP.Data("AAPL.O", "TR.CompanyName")
giving the result Apple Inc
How can I install Workspace? (Staff and PGR only)
Members of staff and PGR candidates can install Workspace from the Software Center. This requires a University-owned PC or laptop running the Managed Desktop (Windows 10). It will remove your existing Eikon installation! For support with installation, please contact IT Services.
There is a version of Workspace Desktop for macOS. If you wish to use this, please contact the Library.
