How can I screen for companies or equities using criteria of my choice?
In Bloomberg, use the ‘EQS’ equity screening function (type ‘EQS’ and press Enter). Click on ‘More Categories’ criteria to view all screening criteria. See our post Introduction to Bloomberg for more details.
Fame has a search function to screen for all registered UK and the Republic of Ireland companies by any of the following criteria: company name, industry, location, size, company type, ownership, status, M&A deals and top range of companies.
Orbis has a search function to screen for global companies by the same criteria as Fame.
In Capital IQ, use ‘Screening’, ‘Company screening’, and select the desired criteria. See our post Introduction to Capital IQ for more details. See our post on screening for companies and banks in Capital IQ Pro too.
In LSEG Refinitiv Workspace, use the 'Screener' app (SCREENER). Make sure the 'Universe' is set to 'Public Companies' then select filters from the left column. You can later add more columns to make a custom report then export to Excel. You can also run a predefined search by clicking on the drop-down list 'Unsaved Screen' at the top of the left column and selecting from the list, such as 'TR US Large Growth'.
