Outputs out of scope of the Research Excellence Framework policy
Answer
The Research Excellence Framework (REF) Open Access (OA) policy only applies to journal articles and conference contributions (with an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN)) which are accepted for publication from 1 April 2016. Outputs that fall outside this definition, such as working papers, monographs and confidential reports, do not need to meet the OA requirements for submission to the next REF.
These outputs are not precluded from Green OA however, and can still be deposited to the institutional repository via either the OA Gateway or by manually creating a record in Pure. A member of the library team will then check any appropriate funder and publisher policies and make your paper openly available in line with these policies.
Authors publishing long-form outputs may be subject to further funder policies and should check the dedicated OA monographs articles.
