Open Research Skills Framework

Answer

What is the Open Research Skills Framework?

The Open Research Skills Framework consolidates essential Open Research practices and concepts throughout the research life cycle into clearly defined, thematic groupings:

The Framework has been developed in consultation with researchers and research leads; in collaboration with the University's Open Research Fellows; and with input and endorsement from the Open Research Strategy Group.

How can I use the Open Research Skills Framework?

The Office for Open Research uses the Framework to identify training and support gaps at the University.

Researchers are encouraged to use the Framework to identify the Open Research practices they are already engaged in, and the skills they need to develop to make their research more open. Research leads are encouraged to use the Framework to understand Open Research engagement within their teams, schools and faculties. The Framework is not intended to be static, comprehensive or definitive and is under continuous development.

My Research Essentials (MRE) is our programme of workshops, information sessions and online resources to support researchers in making their research more open. Our offer is aligned with the Open Research Skills Framework to allow you to identify the support that fits your Open Research needs.

Share your feedback

We will continue to develop and refine the Open Research Skills Framework so that it reflects and offers practical support to address emerging and priority researcher needs. The Framework is developed in partnership with researchers, and we value your reflections and insights to inform this ongoing development. Please contact us to share your experiences and feedback about using the Framework, or to discuss the Framework and its applications in more detail.
