I'm having problems connecting to Eduroam
Staff & Students of The University Of Manchester
If you set up eduroam before Monday 18 January 2021 then you’ll need to do it again, because we made some changes on Monday 15 February.
Important information before you get started:
- All eduroam usernames start with your University username and finish with @manchester.ac.uk
When setting up eduroam, you must enter the username in the format universityusername@manchester.ac.uk, where "universityusername" is the username you use to sign into most University services (email, Blackboard, My Manchester, University managed computers etc).
For example, if your University username is v12345ab, youreduroam username is v12345ab@manchester.ac.uk.
If you don’t enter the username in the correct format, it won’t work. - You don’t need to make these changes on any University managed Windows laptop; they’re all ready for use.
- While this has been thoroughly tested on a number of different devices, we advise you not to apply this update immediately before critical work (eg exams or activities with urgent deadlines) in case you need additional help.
- If your phone uses Android, please read the Android eduroam upgrade information page before proceeding.
- If you use Linux, please follow the steps below, and then read the "eduroam: For Linux" article (search for eduroam linux) for additional setup instructions.
What you need to do:
- Ensure you’re connected to a wired, Wi-Fi or mobile data (4G/5G etc) network. If you’re on campus or in halls and don’t already have a connection, you can use the UoM_WiFi network.
- Visit cat.eduroam.org on the device(s) you want to use on eduroam.
- Click on “Click here to download your eduroam installer”
- Select “The University of Manchester”
- Download and run the installer for your device
- Follow the on-screen instructions (these will vary, depending on your device type)
Any problems?
- If your eduroam connection doesn’t work, you can use a wired connection or connect to the UoM_WiFi network instead while your query is dealt with.
- For detailed instructions, please read eduroam: Wi-Fi network upgrade (search for wifiupgrade)
- If you’re in halls of residence, report problems via the Hornet Portal. If you’re elsewhere on campus, contact the IT Support Centre.
