Information Governance Office

The Information Governance Office is the point of contact for all enquiries related to:

  • Data protection

  • Freedom of information

  • Records management

Research Governance, Ethics and Integrity

The Research Governance, Ethics and Integrity team is responsible for developing and monitoring University policy and providing guidance and support to researchers concerning:

  • Research ethics and ethical approval

  • Animal use in research and teaching

  • Human tissue research

  • Research integrity and responsible research

  • Research misconduct

IT Services

IT Services provides guidance on:

  • Cyber security, including advice on encryption, data handling and using cloud services

  • GlobalProtect Virtual Private Network (VPN)

  • Storage and collaboration tools through Microsoft 365, e.g. OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online

Export Controls

The Export Controls compliance team provides guidance about what data, information, or materials export controls might apply to. All University staff and students must comply with Government legislation through export controls on all activities, including:

  • Research

  • Teaching

  • Travel and conferences

  • Collaborations

  • Funding

  • Visitors

Contracts

If you are having discussions with an external organisation, whether it is a charity, another university or a commercial company, you will need to consider whether a contract is required.

The Contracts Team is responsible for negotiating and authorising contracts with external parties including:

  • Research agreements

  • Consultancies

  • Studentships

  • Clinical trials

  • Multi-party collaborations

  • The exchange of confidential information, datasets, research tools and materials
