I have an error message in Bloomberg when opening a template
You can search for Bloomberg templates using the XLTP function. 'Templates' are prepared macro-enabled Excel workbooks which let you study one security or idea in more depth using the Bloomberg Excel add-in.
When you select your template and click the 'Open' button, you might see an error message:
'An error occurred when launching the spreadsheet. Please contact Bloomberg support.'
This means that the template has downloaded to your computer but Excel was blocked from opening it. Please contact us to report this issue, quoting the number of the PC (eg A006) so that IT Services can run a Quick Repair of Office. In the meantime, please use the following workaround to find the file in a temporary folder which you can then copy wherever you like.
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Copy the following path: %temp%\bloomberg\data
- In Windows Explorer, paste the path into the address bar and press Enter.
- You should now see the files, for example 'XDCF.xlsm' which you can copy to your OneDrive or P drive.
Before you open Excel, make sure you have installed the Bloomberg Office add-ins and are logged into the Bloomberg terminal software. The templates will only work in the desktop version of Excel.
When you open the workbook in Excel, make sure to enable macros when asked.
You should see a screen like the following, with a Bloomberg tab in the Excel ribbon menu.
To check the template is working, change one of the orange-coloured cells. For example, change the ticker from 'IBM US' to 'AAPL US' then press Enter. If the numbers change, the template is working.
