How do I save and reload my views and settings in Fame?

The University's access to Fame is an "academic pooled solution" meaning that you get an arbitrary ID each time you log in, rather than individually assigned IDs. All previously saved searches, settings and views are lost.

We have a workaround: It is possible to download various searches and settings then upload them again the next time you log in. For example, you can save a set of company IDs or a 'view' of columns (data items and date ranges). In some places, you can see options to export and then import files containing these searches and settings.

The following instructions explain how to export and import views.

  1. Log into Fame. Note you are assigned a user account such as ‘main-users-42564’ at the top-right of the screen, different every time you log in.
  2. Start with a rough company search, eg all companies with “gamestop” in their name.
    Fame search and click Views
  3. Click on the views drop-down menu: may say ‘Standard view’ initially. It is near the top-right of the results table. You can see some views that everyone had including ‘Standard view’, ‘Credit view’, and any views associated with this user account (with a head and shoulders icon). Click ‘Manage views’.

  4. There are more details of all the available views here. Click the button at the top-right labelled ‘Create new’.
    Fame create new view
  5. Create your view with all the variables you need and a name of your choice (default is ‘My view 1’). When finished, click the ‘Save’ button.
  6. Return to the ‘Manage views’ screen to see your new view. Near the right of it, click the down arrow in a circle icon, immediately to the right of the date and time the view was last edited. Click on ‘Export’.

  7. Save the new .list file to a sensible place.
    Fame save file as
  8. When you come back to Fame the next time, navigate to the ‘Manage views’ page in the same way. This time, click the ‘Import’ button at the top-right.

  9. Drag your .list file here or click the button to choose it.
  10. You can now reuse your view.
