Where can I find Industry Standards using the Library?
British Standards Online database
In the first instance please search for British Standards Online in Library Search – e.g. search for “British Standards Online”.
You will be able to access and download the full text of British Standards that include current, draft and withdrawn document records.
International Standards
The University does not currently have an institution wide subscription to International Standards but you can however; access a limited range of ISO standards via the British Standards Online subscription. These include:
- International Standard Organisation (ISO) standards that have identical BS counterparts.
- CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation)
- CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization)
The Construction Information Service (CIS) database
In the first instance please search for Construction Information Service on Library Search - e.g. search for “Construction Information Service”.
You will be able to access up to date British Standards, legislation and other guidance information related to:
- Construction
- Health and safety
- Pharmaceuticals
IEEE Xplore database
In the first instance please search for IEEE Xplore on Library Search - e.g. search for “IEEE Xplore”.
You will have access to the full text technical literature from IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) journals, transactions, magazines, letters, conference proceedings, standards, and IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) publications.
ASTM Compass database
In the first instance please search for ASTM Compass on Library Search - e.g. search for “ASTM Compass”.
You will have access to the full text industry-leading standards and technical engineering information created by the world's top technical experts and business professionals representing 135 countries.
Subjects covered include a broad range of engineering disciplines: aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, environmental, geological, health & safety, industrial, materials science, mechanical, nuclear, petroleum, soil science, and solar engineering.
If the Library does not have access to the standard I need - how can I get access to it?
There will be occasions where the Library does not hold the material you need for your studies or research.
Students and staff at The University of Manchester can request items using our Order a Book and Order an Article services.
