How can I find foreign subsidiaries of parent companies?

Search in Fame (for UK and Ireland) or Orbis (global).

  • Limit the search by choosing ‘Ownership > Shareholders with > Foreign subsidiaries’. Select your country in the ‘Location of the company’ box. Choose the country or region in the ‘Country of the subsidiary’ box and click ‘OK’. Click ‘VIEW RESULTS’.
  • Add columns to view the details of the subsidiaries.  You can export the data to a spreadsheet and do some filtering and sorting as all subsidiaries will be listed.

In Capital IQ, use ‘Screening’, ‘Company screening’. Add two criteria as follows:

  • Under ‘Company Details’ click ‘Geographic Locations’. Search for the country where the parent company is located, for example ‘United Kingdom’ and click ‘Selection’. Make sure the box for ‘Headquarters only’ is ticked. Click ‘Add Criteria’.
  • Scroll up and click again ‘Geographic Locations’ and select the country where the foreign subsidiaries are located, for example ‘Singapore’. Make sure the box for ‘Headquarters only’ is not ticked. Click ‘Add Criteria’.
  • Finally, click ‘View results’.
