Where can I find international trade statistics?

In Datastream, when choosing the ‘Data Category’, select ‘Economics’. Use the ‘Explore’ feature to select the appropriate economics option under ‘Economics > International Historical Sources’, such as ‘IMF Direction of Trade Statistics’ and ‘CPB World Trade Monitor.’

In Euromonitor Passport, the ‘Country Reports’ include both imports and exports sections which give a brief analysis of international trade in a country.

Statista has worldwide coverage of trade statistics. Type a chosen country name in the search box.

Consider the following websites:

  • The Office for National Statistics has UK international trade statistics.
  • Foreign Trade Statistics (from the U.S. Census Bureau)
  • In the OECD iLibrary, search for ‘OECD Economic Outlook’ (database),  choose ‘Create a basic chart’, then ‘Sources: OECD EO > Search Text’ to select data on foreign trade.
  • In the OECD iLibrary, search for ‘OECD Main Economic Indicators’ (database), choose ‘Create a basic chart’, then ‘Sources: OECD MEI > Search Text’ to select data on foreign trade.
  • UN Comtrade has global annual imports and exports by commodity and country.
