If you wish to create a word count that does not include any EndNote citations or reference lists, this can be accomplished by creating your own blank EndNote style that omits these being presented in your Word document.
To create this style:
- Open EndNote Desktop.
- Select 'Tools' > 'Output Styles' > 'New Style...'
- Save it by selecting 'File' > 'Save As...' and name it 'Word Count Style'
- Save.
Now, in your Word document:
- Change the style by selecting 'EndNote' > 'Style:' > 'Word Count Style'. As the style is blank, it will make all of your citations and reference lists appear to disappear.
- Conduct your word count by selecting 'Review' > 'Word Count'.
- Revert the style back to the one of your choosing e.g. Harvard Manchester, and your citations and reference lists will reappear.
