New Ebsco User Interface: What do I need to do?

In August 2025, the EBSCOhost databases will move to a new user interface.

The new EBSCOhost UI provides similar content to the classic version for most databases and provides a more streamlined and accessible experience for users.

For users of the CINAHL database, please note that CINAHL differs significantly from the current version and researchers will notice that MeSH and the Ask A Librarian functions are not present. This means that although saved searches for most EBSCO databases can be rerun, there may be a few issues with rerunning CINAHL searches. EBSCO are continually tweaking the new interface to respond to feedback from users and librarians and these changes may take until the autumn (October 2025) to resolve. If any researchers have problems rerunning their searches, please contact EBSCO.

The Library’s Teaching and Learning Team are already working on updating the online resources and we hope some of these will be posted on the online resources webpages for the beginning of the academic year.

What you need to do

My Folders: Please download or move any saved items from your Custom or Shared EBSCO folders into ‘My Folder’. The following records saved in ‘My Folder’ will not automatically migrate: companies, webpages, persistent links to searches, notes, pages, and other content sources.

For further information, please consult these instructions on how to migrate your content:

Move Saved Searches from Custom Folders

Save and Export Items from your Custom Folders

If you do not move this content before the migration, you can still retrieve and recreate Custom Folders until 31 December 2025 using these instructions for Downloading data from MyEBSCO custom folders.

Journal and Search Alerts: You will need to recreate your Journal and Search Alerts in the new interface. Note the journals you have created alerts for and record the terms you have used in the search alerts so you can re-create them in the new user interface after the migration.

New features

My Dashboard: The new UI introduces a Dashboard on the left-hand side of the screen. This replaces the old Folders and Custom Folders.

Through the Dashboard, you can access:

• Projects

• Saved items

• Searches

• Recently viewed content

Saved Searches are located under the Searches tab in the Saved section. Learn about using the Dashboard in this EBSCO Connect guide.

Tutorials and further information

EBSCO has produced a suite of online videos and guides that show users how to navigate the new interface:

Please note that these videos are subject to change and do not necessarily search the products as we would expect our own researchers to. For further assistance, please email the Electronic Resources Helpdesk.
