I'm a Graduate of The University of Manchester, how do I access the library?

As a graduate of The University of Manchester, you are eligible for a Library card that gains you access to the Main Library

You can apply for graduate membership either in person at the Main Library Customer Service Desk, or you can fill in our application form and send it to us via Library Help.

You must have a UK address and be based in the UK to apply.

If you graduated before 1996 you will need to provide either:

  • A copy of your degree certificate
  • Your Alumni Association card

Graduates of affiliated courses should bring their degree certificate or old student ID.

Erasmus students are entitled to graduate membership only if they have completed 12 months or more with The University of Manchester.

Your graduate card will allow you to borrow up to 15 books and will also grant you use of our external PCs in the Main Library, which can be used during the Customer Service team's working hours. These PCs can only be used for access to our electronic resources available to you.

To manage your loans and request books online, please create an Alumni Account via the IT Account Manager. Click "Activate your IT Account" and follow the instructions to obtain your Library username and set a password. Please note this is not an official UoM IT Account, so cannot be used to access E-Resources or Library computers.

For further information, please contact our Customer Services team.
