Displaying theses and supervisions in Pure
Answer
Open Access PhD theses automatically display on supervisor Pure profiles.
It is not possible to include details of embargoed or closed access theses on Pure profiles, as doing so would contravene the access level selected and approved for such theses during the submission process.
Displaying supervisions in Pure
We appreciate that thesis supervisors may wish to include details of a current supervision on their Pure profile. There is a free-text ‘Other supervisions’ box available at the top of the ‘Student theses’ page in Pure, above the feed of Open Access theses, which can be used to enter details of all supervisions, including those which have resulted in closed access theses.
-
Log into Pure - http://www.Manchester.ac.uk/pure
-
Go to ‘Personal overview’
-
Click ‘Edit profile’
-
In the new window which opens, scroll down until you see the ‘Curriculum and research description’ section.
-
Scroll right to the bottom of this section. If you already have the ‘Supervision information’ section activated in Pure, you’ll see this.
-
You can click ‘Edit’ to amend this and begin adding details of other supervisions.
-
If you don’t see ‘Supervision information’, scroll right to the bottom of this section and click ‘Add profile information’
-
A free text box will appear. Click the arrow next to the ‘Type’ options menu, and select ‘Supervision information’.
-
You can then input details of pre-2010, closed access, or other supervisions in your preferred format. You can find some examples of how Manchester supervisors have chosen to display this information via the screenshots at the end of this article.
-
Once you’ve added or amended your supervision information, click ‘Update.’ This will close the ‘Edit profile information’ box.
-
The ‘Other supervisions’ information will appear on the ‘Student theses’ tab of your research profile above all theses which are now Open Access, so you may wish to add a header at the end of your ‘Other supervisions’ section highlighting this.
-
Remember to click Save at the bottom of your ‘Edit profile’ box to save all your changes.
