Reaching broader audiences for your research
Answer
Why aim to reach broader audiences for your research?
In recent years there has been an increased focus on the societal impact of the research that’s undertaken at universities. This is the effect that research has beyond academia, or the effect or change experienced by society from that research.
Publishing in journals, or publishing books and book chapters is a fundamental part of the research process. But in order to reach broader audiences and generate this societal impact, you may need to do further work to reach the audiences that will most benefit from research.
Action you can take to reach broader audiences
Sharing research openly is key to driving innovation and maximising its potential societal impact. The Office for Open Research is committed to supporting innovative Open Access publishing models and responsible use of research metrics to enhance the transparent and meaningful dissemination and analysis of research.
The My Research Essentials online resource Raising awareness of your research offers suggestions, recommendations and tangible actions on how to effectively reach your research audiences.
The University provides comprehensive support to for researchers to explore ways to increase the impact of their research, including dedicated teams which can work with you to engage audiences who could benefit from your work:
-

-
Media Relations works with researchers to put together press releases and distribute to journalists who may be interested in covering their findings.
-
