Answer

Our Open Access agreement with ACS came to an end on April 30th 2025. Authors can continue to publish in ACS journals as normal, but the way in which Open Access is achieved may be different.

Subscription

Authors publishing in ACS subscription journals should not choose to publish Open Access. The Library cannot provide funding for Open Access in these journals. On acceptance, authors should deposit the author accepted manuscript (AAM) via the Open Access Gateway. A member of the team will ensure that this version of the paper is made Open Access via the Research Explorer.

For the next few months, the Library will be monitoring publishing in ACS' subscription journals and reaching out to University of Manchester authors to guide them through the process of making their articles Open Access in this way.

Fully Open Access

ACS publishes a number of fully Open Access journals - journals that only publish Open Access content. Authors can request funding to pay article processing charges (APCs) in these journals via our Open Access enquiry form
